Buyer (to be based in Kenya)

Our client, one of the largest retailing company, is looking for a Buyer (to be based in Kenya)

Reporting to the Head of Buying, the successful candidate will be responsible to ensure profitable stock on the shelf at the right time and place and right price.

Main responsibilities:

To draw up a open to buy plan
  • Analysing trends regarding sales performance
  • Draw up budgets per category
    • Based on sales performance
    • Based on current stock
    • Ranging - Quantities
  • Identify new opportunity areas
To source suppliers and products
  • Studying the trends
  • Negotiate Pricing, duration of the Pricing and payment terms, rebates
  • Determine the selling price and quantity and stock turn (margin)
  • Supplier Performance report
 Planograms for merchandising
  • Draw up the planogram for merchandising
  • Communicate to Div / Reg Management to get buy-in and standardization for product ranges
  • Plan the marketing of products with the marketing department
    • Assist with lay-out
    • Mostly with Head of Buying
  • Store visits to ensure standards
 Distribution – Stock availability
  • Shipment
    • Consolidation of goods - economies of scale
  • Receive goods and ensure DC actioning / tracking of goods
    • Negotiate priorities with Chief Buyer
  • To manage and train people
  • Tertiary qualification in Buying / Retail / Purchasing / Business
  • Buying Experience 5 years
  • Store Management Experience
Candidate profile:
  • Fluent in both English and French
  • Store Retail
  • Product knowledge
  • Customer knowledge
  • Advanced Business / financial indicators and principles.
  • International knowledge of products / suppliers / currencies.
  • Computer literacy
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Absorb extreme amounts of information / analyse / prioritise
